Founded in 1997, the idea of COPE, Cooperative Orthotic and Prosthetic Enterprise, was inspired by a boy named Santar whom future COPE staff met while on holiday. Santar had lost his leg due to an unexpected cluster bomb explosion. COPE not only provided Santar with a prosthetic leg, but they also changed his life. With cooperation between the Ministry of Health of Lao PDR and a group of non-Government organizations including POWER, World Vision and Cambodian School of Prosthetics and Orthotics, COPE is now changing thousands of lives each year.
